Announcement of the 6th ICMMES

The Sixth International Conference for Mesoscopic Methods in Engineering and Science (ICMMES, http://www.icmmes.org) will be held in Guangzhou, China, July 13-17, 2009. The ICMMES Conference series focuses on mesoscopic methods for computational mechanics based on mesoscopic theory and kinetic equations (e.g., the Boltzmann equation), as opposed to traditional methods based on macroscopic theory and continuum equations (e.g., the Navier-Stokes equations for flows). The mesoscopic methods of interest to ICMMES include: the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE), lattice-gas cellular automata (LGCA), discrete velocity models (DVM), gas-kinetic schemes (GKS), dissipative particle dynamics (DPD), and smooth-particle hydrodynamics (SPH).

The 6th ICMMES will offer one day short course on Monday, July 13,
2009. This year's shortcourses are:

1) Dr. Irina Ginzburg, CEMAGREF, France: "Two-Relaxation-Times Model
for Micro and Macro Flows"

2) Professor Manfred Krafczyk, Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany: Grid Refinement for the Lattice Boltzmann Method"

3) Professor Li-Shi Luo, Old Dominion University, USA: "A Survey of Recent Developments of Lattice Boltzmann Method"

4) Professor Kun Xu, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology,
Hong Kong: "An Introduction of Gas-Kinetic Schemes for the Compressible Navier-Stokes Solutions"

5) Dr. Thomas Zeiser, Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany: "Efficient Implementation of Lattice Boltzmann Flow Solvers"
