Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure to ask you nominating the candidates for the New World Math Award for undergraduate, Master and PhD students of Chinese descendant around the world. Sponsored by the New World Development Company, we establish the New World Math Award in 2007 to encourage outstanding math students of Chinese descendant in their pursuit of mathematical truth.
The first award has been presented in the Fourth ICCM 2007, Hangzhou. Beginning this year, the New World Math Award results will be announced annually, and winner will claim their prizes in a ceremony during an ICCM. The candidates are the undergraduate, MSc and PhD math students of Chinese descendant around the world who have completed a thesis in 2008 or 2009.
To cover theses of 2008 and 2009, the New World Math Award 2009 consists of the following:
(1) Undergraduate Thesis Award (no more than 4 gold prizes and 6 silver prizes),
(2) MSc Thesis Award (no more than 2 gold prize and 2 silver prizes)
(3) PhD Thesis Award (no more than 2 gold prizes and 4 silver prizes).
There are also 9 honorary mentions and each recipient will receive cash prize 500 RMB. The details of the award have been announced in the official website:

We would appreciate if you can tell your department, colleagues and students about this award. The students should send an application and a copy of their theses via our online submission

A letter of recommendation should be sent to our secretary (wx@cms.zju.edu.cn) at Zhejiang University. A national committee will choose about thirty of such theses for an international committee to rank. Results will be announced in December 2009. Awards will be presented in ICCM 2010.
I would like to encourage everyone to liberally submit his/her theses for consideration before September 30, 2009.
