Studied here is the Boussinesq system $$η_t+u_x+(ηu)_x+au_{xxx}-bη_{xxt}=0,$$ $$u_t+η_x+\frac{1}{2}(u²)_x+cη_{xxx}-du_{xxt}=0,$$of partial differential equations. This system has been used in theory and practice as a model for small-amplitude, long-crested water waves. The issue addressed is whether or not the initial-value problem for this system of equations is globally well posed.
The investigation proceeds by way of numerical simulations using a computer code based on a a semi-implicit, pseudo-spectral code. It turns out that larger amplitudes or velocities do seem to lead to singularity formation in finite time, indicating that the problem is not globally well posed.

In this paper, we propose a spectral projection of a regularized Boussinesq system for wave propagation on the surface of a fluid. The spectral method is based on the use of Legendre polynomials, and is able to handle time-dependent Dirichlet boundary conditions with spectral accuracy.
The algorithm is applied to the study of undular bores, and in particular to the onset of wave breaking connected with undular bores. As proposed in [2], an improved version of the breaking criterion recently introduced in [5] is used. This tightened breaking criterion together with a careful choice of the relaxation parameter yields rather accurate predictions of the onset of breaking in the leading wave of an undular bore.

In this paper, we study the well-posedness of an initial-boundary-value problem (IBVP) for the Boussinesq equation on a bounded domain,

\begin{cases}    &u_{tt}-u_{xx}+(u^2)_{xx}+u_{xxxx}=0,\quad x\in (0,1), \;\;t>0,\\    &u(x,0)=\varphi(x),\;\;\; u_t(x,0)=ψ(x),\\    &u(0,t)=h_1(t),\;\;\;u(1,t)=h_2(t),\;\;\;u_{xx}(0,t)=h_3(t),\;\;\;u_{xx}(1,t)=h_4(t).\\   \end{cases} It is shown that the IBVP is locally well-posed in the space $H^s (0,1)$ for any $s\geq 0$ with the initial data $\varphi,$ $\psi$ lie in $H^s(0,1)$ and $ H^{s-2}(0,1)$, respectively, and the naturally compatible boundary data $h_1,$ $h_2$ in the space $H_{loc}^{(s+1)/2}(\mathbb{R}^+)$, and $h_3 $, $h_4$ in the the space of $H_{loc}^{(s-1)/2}(\mathbb{R}^+)$ with optimal regularity.

Motivated by the Bohr atomic model, in this article we establish a mathematical theory to study energy levels, corresponding to bounds states, for subatomic particles. We show that the energy levels of each subatomic particle are finite and discrete, and corresponds to negative eigenvalues of the related eigenvalue problem. Consequently there are both upper and lower bounds of the energy levels for all subatomic particles. In particular, the energy level theory implies that the frequencies of mediators such as photons and gluons are also discrete and finite. Both the total number $N$ of energy levels and the average energy level gradient (for two adjacent energy levels) are rigorously estimated in terms of certain physical parameters. These estimates show that the energy level gradient is extremely small, consistent with the fact that it is hard to notice the discrete behavior of the frequency of subatomic particles.

This paper discusses the existence and stability of solitary-wave solutions of a general higher-order Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation, which involves pseudo-differential operators for the linear part. One of such equations can be derived from water-wave problems as second-order approximate equations from fully nonlinear governing equations. Under some conditions on the symbols of pseudo-differential operators and the nonlinear terms, it is shown that the general higher-order BBM equation has solitary-wave solutions. Moreover, under slightly more restrictive conditions, the set of solitary-wave solutions is orbitally stable. Here, the equation has a nonlinear part involving the polynomials of solution and its derivatives with different degrees (not homogeneous), which has not been studied before. Numerical stability and instability of solitary-wave solutions for some special fifth-order BBM equations are also given.
